|
|
Hi! I've got a 1990 Westy GL with bad front door step panel pads on both sides.
I ordered replacement pads from GW (https://gowesty.com/products/front-step-pad-lh) and was wondering how to install them. It looks like you can simply pry off the old ones and pop in the new ones.
But, I was wondering is anything else is needed? For example, should I line the pad metal with a good amount of silicone before putting in the new pads?
Thanks in advance![/url] |

Thanks. What glue do you suggest?

STEP AWAY FROM THE SILICONE!
Horrible over rated product with poor long term performance and leaves behind such a mess that it is hard to clean the residue effectively.
Silicone has its uses....... but they are few and far between!
Look at almost any older silicone application. You will see a sad mess and ineffective sealing.
What to use?
Try Lexel a far superior long lasting sealant, available at most hardware stores. |
Thanks! Should I use a sealant on these pads or just glue them in? I'm tempted to seal them to avoid the dread rust demons. |

Most likely the steps themselves will be rusted, take the time to sand/grind as needed to remove all rust, convert with something like Ospho, prime, and paint.
The pads can be heated a little to make pliable so the plugs pop right in and helps them lie flat. _________________ Currently:

I second that. Then plug these holes, and glue the pads to the floor. _________________ '90 Little Blue Truck, 2WD auto, FAS GenV 2.0 NA (AVH) |

VHB tape could be good here.
The tape can cover the holes and bond the step pad. |
Thanks, I'll check it out!
Man, I love that replies on this forum come in ASAP. Thanks! |
