Transmission Filter

Hi Sambas,

I've changed the oil in a Bug transmission and I don't remember any filter in there.

1979 Westfalia (2.0L T4 engine). Does the transmission have an oil filter?

well, if it's manual, four speed, the 091 six rib has a magnetic wand on the backside of the drain, dead center, bottom. Particles like to bond to it, pull them off.

If it's a three speed automatic, there's a kit, pan gasket, mesh filter, paper gasket that gets trapped between filter screen & valve body, three screws as I recall. You don't really need to buy the kit, the metal screen is cleanable. Don't use a torch, it will burn the mesh up. No, I do not want to explain how I know that factoid. : l
