there are two holes in the top of the tin on a type 4 engine where the T-cable comes thru. One is plugged by the cable and a rubber puck. The other I am staring at and can't either remember what went there or I am missing something maybe. I don't see evidence of RTV so I didn't plug it last time. It is the second hole in the top photo. You can barely see it too in the bottom photo. IGNORE the red arrows. I pulled the images from another thread.

A close inspection of my tin shows that the hole is slightly slotted, like the original head may have had a fastener hole but the AMC head does not. Using a magnifying glass there is a remnant of RTV on it so I must have sealed it last time. Thanks for the reply. It helped me figure out what it is. The hole on my 77 is slightly closer to the head than the image I posted.
I was looking at it wondering if there was some wire or something I missed. My tin came with the bus but the engine had been rebuilt before so that does not mean it is original to a 1977, although I think it is. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

here’s a lousy shot of my thermostat-wire hole. doesn’t go wide enough to see the area where your other hole is.
you can see the rubber grommet. i just learned recently from colin about the collar that seals the wire. found one at a porsche-parts place. will install it next time i drop the engine.

Don't forget the hold down tabs for the bar for the flaps. _________________ 1972 Bus 1700 cc Single Carb. But not a progressive.

thanks - they are on. Engine was missing flaps when I bought it. Had to rebuild the whole flap system. It is in, plan to test it today with a heat gun. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |
