I just finally dug out the cam I bought from Matt at Air Cooled Research 5 years ago.. and no cam card. Managed to access his old website using https://web.archive.org and found the camshaft links but he didn't list the specs. D'oh!
Stuck the cam into a case, it's a reground stock cam, and measures .311 lift.
so .357 with AA ratio rockers or 3.88 with Speedwells
I'll have to get a gear mounted to actually degree it and get more specs. Really wish it had a cam card..
Does anyone know who ground the cams for him?

It looks like Elgin does have grinds not listed on their site.

"The stock 1500 Super used a cam very similar to the later Super cam but ground on the early two-piece case billet. The problem in simply picking a sport profile for grinding the cam was that the early engines use a radius lifter that requires a different lobe profile than the flat lifters of the later engines. A call was made to Dema Elgin and he had two options, a 270 and 280 degree. The 270 was chosen because of the carb and exhaust limitations."

Cheers,

Paul

Alstrup, thank you for adding to this. Do they have grinds for 36hp that aren't listed on the site? When I looked, it just seemed that the offering were for 40hp to 1600 and larger engines. Thats just my ass-umption after reading there cam descriptions

While Elgin cams are not widely known in the 36 hp community they do have good grinds toi chose from. When I need cams for such engines I go to Elgin or Web.
The WW grind is not bad, its just horribly unprecise. This doesnt matter if youre just building to be able to say that you have an Okrasa engine. But if you actually put some miles on the car or even race it, it suddenly becomes an issue.

I've downloaded all this and will try to get a chart together, so it can all be viewed on one screen, comparing apples to apples

I had Schnieder make me a custom cam off of a WW blank for my SP engine with AMR300 Blower. Engine still not done, but if you send them your complete specs on your engine and intended use / rpm range including the Head Flow CFM at various lifts, they will grind you a suitable cam for it. They are familiar with the VW / 356 heads and can tailor one to your engine. This is especially useful when using a Stroker crank and ratio rockers so you can avoid coil bind. If you have the flow numbers, they can tailor the lift profile to your flow rates as well getting the most bang for your exact heads. Brian at Type E motorsports in SD flowed my 36hp heads for me at actual 25 or 28" instead of 10 and doing the math. This is pretty fun stuff.

This is all I could find on the Aircooledresearch cams. I have one packed away, will have to see if it was sent with a cam card.

This is the information I've seen:

"The camshaft is from Mr. Motorhead and is his #2 which I degreed at 0”, .010”, .020”, .040” and .050” to get figures to compare to any other 36 cam. This cam is closest to the early Porsche Super cam. (Intake Opening) 17 degree, (Intake Closing) 45 degree, (Exhaust Opening) 49 degree, (Exhaust Closing) 7 degree = 242 degree duration intake. 236 degree duration exhaust and all at .040” or 1 mm. Valve lift is 325 intake valve and 302”exhaust."

If I remember correctly Mr Okrasa Joe Ruiz was selling cams for 25/36 HP engines in the past? Does anyone else remember or have/run one in their engine. If so does anyone know the specs?

before I reinvent the wheel, has someone already compiled the various 36hp cam specs in one table somewhere? I have a picture with the old Isky cam specs, I have an email somewhere from Matt (RIP) with the Aircooled Research cam specs, and there's the Wolfsburg West cam. What else is out there? It seems that currently it's the WW cam or nothing, so I was going to send a WW blank to Web and have them make me something, just would be so much easier to consider off the info was in one place.
