Ignition switch barrel removal

Greetings. Question: how do I remove the barrel from the assembly?

You will note from the head on picture there is not the small hole along the side to insert a pick to push and then extract. This is mentioned in various other posts and YouTube videos but there no hole to work with.

Looking at the pic with the side shot you see a "trap door" in the middle of the assembly. What is this? Should I pry it open?

The rear facing shot shows the screw holding in the switch which was removed.

Also, I do not have a key- this car came disassembled and no key was located. Would I have to take to locksmith to get a key made to insert and hopefully get it to release? Yikes.

Any help is appreciated.

Just a guess but that Philips head screw in the middle looks like it's holding a retaining ring around the barrel try removing it.

I am guessing with 71 or 72, but not sure.

The little screw holds the electric portion of the switch in place, it does not retain the key cylinflder. The barrel cylinder is held in place with an elbow spring(see pic)

In you 2nd pic, the "valley" on the right side of that opening, where the triangular wedge normally sits, you will need to drill a small hole that you can push a drill bit end or allen key through to depress the spring.

That thing is huge.

Usually there is a hole in the side you can push in so the spring will let go. It's a real pain to remove when you lose your keys because the locking mechanism keeps you from being able to get it out. I had to take apart the whole steering column to get one removed once for my father.
