I don't care for the stock manual steering wheel or, for that matter the power steering model either. South African wheels are crazy money and eurovan wheels look to be about the same size as standard power steering wheels. I don't mind the size of the stock manual steering wheel, just the design with the single bar between 3 and 9 o'clock. I've been looking at later model bugs between '75 and '79 with the large center pad and was wondering how they compare to the vanagon manual steering wheel. Would the spline match? How does the diameter compare? Anyone have the 411?
Thanks

Those steering wheels are much smaller, 16"? I don't know about column compatibility |

Are they larger than the power steering model?

I had a 1975 Beetle, that I swapped in a GTI steering wheel.
The leather one with a square pad in the middle with the 4 round horn buttons at each corner.
I have seen pictures of this same steering wheel installed on a Vanagon, so I would expect yes, it is swappable. |

How did that GTI steering wheel compare size wise with the origin bug wheel? Was it smaller? I'm hoping that maybe the bug wheel is a little bigger than the vanagon power steering model.

I've seen early Porsche 924 steering wheels mounted in Vanagons, so I'm guessin' they have the same spline set-up. |

Porsche steering wheels are nice, but I would prefer to stay with a Volkswagen badge.
