Noticed my seat lock lever not working and on inspection I discovered the tensioner spring had broken. Can’t seem to find in the classified or online air cooled parts stores. The parts manual says part number is 113 881 243. Looking for advice.

The Thing Shop? I think that's where I got mine.

Unfortunately the Thing Shop only has 113881245B, which is the big spring that tensions the entire seat assembly so it slides forward in the rail. This spring is on the lever.

Being the part number starts with "113", you can probably find a donor from an older (pre 1973) Beetle.

Thanks Semper Dad. Was rapidly coming to that conclusion as well. Let the search begin!

Your local Ace Hardware has a huge selection of springs available on the specialty hardware section. I'm positive you can find one that works just fine.
