Installed a remote oil filter mount and oil cooler. Curious if anyone else had issues with clearance of the crank pulley and the oil pump plate? Father in law big into VW beetles told me about the sand seal pulley kits. So I ordered one and awaiting for it to arrive. |

Many of the covers need to be ground down so they don't push the tin into the pulley.
Another option is to shim the pulley and generator/alternator to clear it.

Yeah we grounded down the pump some but didn’t want to grind it down too much. Started up and was fine then as motor got hot it started to grind. Ordered the sand seal kit which hopefully will be here Tuesday. Have a show next Saturday so hoping all goes well on install next week. Had that remote mount you posted but changed it up when I added an oil cooler so the plate has the 2 taps on the side for the inlet and outlet. |

A "sand seal" is designed to prevent dirt and grime from entering the case when you drive off road. Some people use it if they have too much internal pressure and oil doesn't leak past the slinger.
I "guess" it will space out the pulley, but if you don't need to "seal" the case... just get a set of shims.
BTW, i may be mistaken, but most sand seals need the case machined for them to correctly fit. A press in one is an after thought and I bet it's not as good.
Might want to cap the open nipple on the upper right of the fan shroud. _________________ Glenn

Yeah noticed that yesterday when I was looking at everything. Some other holes as well need to cover. Yeah I’m just getting into VWs after buying this for my wife since it was her dream car. So pretty much relying on my father in laws input in what to do to this Thing. He had motor built to a 1967 and been tinkering with it since the motor build. |

You might want to get broader opinions before making a decision. _________________ Glenn
