1974 SB with 1600 DP, as stock as can be expected on a 50 year old engine.

Cold starts like a champ, idles a little high but starts and runs for about 10-15 minutes and then starts to buck and lose power at 40-45 mph. This quickly gets progressively worse. After letting it sit for a while, its a really hard start with no real power. There is fuel in the fuel filter. Let is sit over night and it is fine and then starts all over again.

I first thought I was low on gas, but fresh gas in the tank didn't help.

This car sits way more than I would like. I cleaned the carb. My plan over the next few days is to do a full tune up (rotor, cap, coil, condenser, set timing) and adjust the valves (I don't know why, but this sounds like tight valves).

Any other low hanging fruit I should look at?
Tougher problems to think about?

Thanks all,
Bruce.

Two things come to mind, clogged fuel filter or coil going bad with a leaning towards the bad coil.

This sounds strangely familiar... Razz

Coil would be my first suspicion as well, I'd say do a resistance check on the windings but it would have to be when the car is having the problem, not when cold.

Thanks for the replies - got around to changing the coil yesterday and it seems better. It starts and idles well. Test drive today after work to see if that was it.
