Where have you folks mounted a fire extinguisher in the Type 1...?
In the MGB I just lay it on the foot well behind the driver side seat.
Thanks,

Passenger kick panel along with a cup holder. Also keep another one in the trunk and a Blazecut in the engine compartment. https://blazecut.com/t-series/

Yup, I have never needed to use it and hope not to in the VeeDub.
@OldSchoolVWs,
I like the kick panel mount also, that fire suppression system is impressive.

Fire extinguishers need to be re-certified every few years, so i've sure yours is past it's expiration date. _________________ Glenn

I did some ease of access drills when I bought a fire extinguisher for the car.
The best location for getting to it quickly is on the floor behind the driver's seat. _________________ “If you care for a thing long enough, it takes on a life of its own, doesn't it? Mending old things, preserving them, looking after them – on some level there's no rational grounds for it.”

To add onto this post, just today I noticed a leak in a short piece of my fuel line, between my all-metal fuel filter and my single Weber 40DCNF carburetor. I had brand-new German fuel line in my trunk, and I replaced that leaky fuel line, including using a piece of rubber hose as the protective "grommet".
I was not able to pinpoint exactly the reason for the leak. I know some here hate braided fuel line, and I know some here hate worm-style hose clamps....

For those of you who do *not* have a blazecut, what is your fire fighting expectation if there is a fire? How will you get to the fire to use the fire extinguisher?
I have an Element, and it is located right under the driver's seat, but if there's an engine fire in my convertible, I'm not sure it will do any good, as I will most likely be unable to open the decklid to put it out.
Is a canister fire extinguisher in a car actually useful? _________________ -Harry

I have a 74 with the 4 rows of louvers, so i don't know how effective the Blazecut with it's small capacity will do.
I have a 2.5lb Halotron extinguisher and will spray it through the louvers without opening the decklid.
The idea is to remove the oxygen to suffocate the fire. The amount of louvers with a Blazecut just won't do the job.. i my opinion. _________________ Glenn

The best thing to do is make sure you have your engine fire right down the street from the fire department, like I did in summer 1990. _________________ I'm the humblest guy on this board.

Cusser, Belmetric sells a good quality German-braided fuel line that is ethanol rated. Good stuff.

Tim - I would think/hope that since ethanol-containing gasoline has been around quite a while, that manufacturers have all adjusted their rubber composition to be resistant. If not, they should apply for jobs at Bud Light, there should be openings....
On the other hand, I see that CB Performance Maxi2 covers still need clearancing by the installer even with being sold for 4 decades, and for my 1988 Mazda truck Redline Weber still hasn't fixed the engineering/manufacturing flaws in their carburetor kits for it, 2 decades now at least.
I've not had a fuel line ever leak like that, maybe the clamp without the rubber shield/tubing caused the leak, but it physically looks OK to me. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. My convertible has a rain tray, which does not allow diect access to the engine from the louvers. Does it make more sense to still try to spray through the deck lid louvers, or should I try to spray from underneath the engine? _________________ -Harry
