Been awhile since I’ve posted a road trip adventure. Tom and his 78 champagne traveling around California inspired me. This may be a complete disaster and I might lose cell service. I’ll give it my best to get interesting pictures. We’ve already had a fatality. My bros 59 double door bus fried it’s wiring. It’s running now but the short is a bit deeper in the harness. We will leave the 59 at home. Thank goodness for a bunk bed in the 76.

Here is gist of the annual weekend campout.
Leaving for camp
This is one of my favorite campouts. It’s not a VW camp but some of us have VWs. It’s a boys only weekend.

A bunch of old DJs and engineers that have done this camp since 1979. They bring a trailer and we live broadcast on KFOT from the desert using a local radio station back up tower. I always broadcast a theme.

Gotta pack the morning wood and return it to the lumberyard. Buses are so great for laying wood through the rear hatch ok ok enough double entendre for the day. It’s time to roll.

So we leave my buddy’s place and head for Mt Hood. 10 blocks away. Oscar takes a piss and stops running. WTF!! Bus was running beautifully all day. I’ll be honest this breakdown on my own would have stranded me. My friend who is a professional ACVW mechanic went through it and checked Air, fuel, spark. He then spots a dangling wire that doesn’t look OEM. I’ve never seen a wire like this.

It appears to be a home brew TS 2 wire pulled out.

Fortunately, I carry a spare and we were back on the road.

Continuing East over Mt Hood. Mt. Hood is one of my favorite mountains. It’s the quintessential mountain most of us learned to draw as kids with a box of crayons. Some decent skiing, biking, and nice hiking too.

Looking forward to play my set in the mobile studio. I think I pulled together a clever theme this year. Here is Q currently on air.

Xatie and I got in to VW buses for camping. So when I see threads like Tom’s, Rich Parker’s, and all the road trips, I think “Bus Porn.” I love to see the different locations and sometimes mechanical issues that get solved with help from the Samba.

This camp has been going since the late 70s. I’ve was invited to this camp 5 years ago. We are fortunate The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs allow us on this beautiful land. The indigenous people of the Americas are amazing people.

Great pics! I spent two summers in Hood River back in the early 90s while on my 2 year tour in my 73 Panel and used to like skiing/boarding in the morning, windsurfing in the afternoon, then mountain biking or hiking after dinner.

Lot's to do in an around Mt Hood or on the other side of the river in Washington including hot springs, tubing, and tons of free camping with a view.

I get back every few years as we have friends who live there but we tend to take the lazy route and just camp in their driveway.
