Eric&Barb, for clarification is there a better link for the entire tin? The link you posted is for the lower area of a Beetle engine, does this mean all lower tin is the same for Beetles and busses? Not to hijack this thread but I've been looking for an exploded view with part names for the entire engine tin of a 1600 DP as I'm missing a few pieces.

Stock engine tin is the best for fit and thusly cool the engine better. Here is a thread about the rear lower cylinder tins:

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=6016781&highlight=#6016781

There are several versions of these tins. The early ones are not as long, so will not fit the 1500/1600 later engines. Others are different due to air cleaner pre-heat or the change in the downdraft tube in the early 1970s.

Does the heavy duty stock VW air cleaner have the 25mm connection or the later 50mm for the preheat hose?? Are those cracks in the rubber hose to the air cleaner?? If so replace soonest to avoid sucking in dirt that will ruin your pistons/rings/cylinders.

Have you considered simply starting with a nicer bus? I don't know what your skills are, but the race is easier if you can see the finish line. If you are not a runner, don't start off doing a marathon.

Will grab some images tomorrow. Do you know where I can get a copy of the Brazilian bus owners manual? Would be keen on a shop / chassis / mechanics manual too if they’re available.

Probably in Brazil. If you want an original Owner's Manual or workshop manuals, might try Ebay in Brazil. Of course in Brazil they speak and read in Portuguese. So viewing the Ebay of Brazil webpage thru the Google translate most likely will be a needed option for you.

You could also post a "WTB" advert for an OM in the classifieds on thesamba website and see what pops up..

There is also the "Owner's Manuals" section thru the "Technical" button at the top of Thesamba webpages where there is a few Brazilian OMs. You can print those OMs out for your own. Be great if someone who might translate those manuals into English sometime and get the translations posted in the OMs section (hint, hint, nudge, nudge).

You need to go often thru all of those buttons till you can navigate them like you can travel about your own locale to the grocery or hardware store or etc... Plus lots and lots of need to know VW info in the "Archive" & "Technical" buttons that you can spend weeks getting to know at least somewhat. Finding what you are looking for (VW or otherwise) info is great, but finding that which you did not know you needed to know is even greater. Thus the word serendipity". Definition: https://www.yourdictionary.com/serendipity

The bus and bug/ghia/Thing used much the same tins for the 1500/1600 engines and at the same time different pieces for each. Too many to try to list. EG the early 1500 split screen bus engine had the preheat tube pass thru the LH lower rear tin. The later split screen 1500 bus went thru the RH lower rear tin due to the air cleaner moved from LH to RH of the engine compartment. Both of those use a LH and RH ONLY pre-heat tube. While the 1967 only beetle used both of those same lower rear tins and the LH & RH pre-heat tubes due to the one year only twin intake air cleaner. One could make an entire workshop manual for all the engine tin changes over all the models and years. Matter of fact the best place for a lot of tin info is the original VW workshop manuals that were at one time only allowed to VW employees, and the kind of Reader's Digest version of the workshop manuals, the VW Official Service Manuals, which were sold at the dealerships starting about 1965 or 66 to the public.

Betting you personally know most of the below, but figured would post it for all here now and later.

Of course there are the original parts manuals with fantastic parts exploded diagrams here:

http://www.oacdp.org/

The type 1 parts manual is thru the "Upcoming" button for now there.

We have sold engine tins all over the N. America and some worldwide. Even selling just one single piece of tin takes at least a few Emails back and forth to try to make sure that piece is really what they need. Some deals take many tens of Emails!! Even then occasionally some customer finds later that they ordered the wrong tin piece because they did not completely think out what they were building up to or the even rarer someone who does not seem to be able to read adequately (not bashing those folks, had a step-father that could not read and comprehend instructions, but he was still brilliant in many other ways) , after all the Emails back and forth. Sigh...

Do not like answering technical PMs due to that only helps one person. Happy to get PMs from folks who want us to check out a thread of theirs in the forums to help someone with and that puts that info out for all now and into the future. Plus any screw ups of ours can be corrected by others!

There is also several good "engine tin diagram" from the VW parts manuals in the "Gallery". Some are for type 3 or Vanagon, but a couple cover the bus and bug. Great to post in a thread one of those diagrams when posting tin questions.
