Couldn't find this anywhere so figured I would let the webs know.

A completely drained Vanagon automatic transmission without the torque converter weighs 147lbs

The torque converter and mounting plate weighs 26lbs. I could still hear some fluid in the converter but I drained it as much as I could.

Good to know! I just shipped one complete, with fluids, completely enclosed in a shipping crate and all of that came in at 270 pounds.

No worries! Further good info to know. UPS/FedEx is quoting $800+ to ship all the parts to make a manual Vanagon an Automatic from Montana to Maryland.
