|
|
I have an inquiry regarding the VW Vanagon Diesel Doka and its compliance with California smog regulations. I am aware that certain Diesel vehicles are exempt from smog requirements in California, hence the reason for this question. Is it necessary for VW Doka Diesel vehicles to undergo smog testing in California? If the answer is affirmative, could you kindly provide information on the specific smog issues typical for these vehicles?
Thank you for your assistance. |

Over the years people have used various paths through the bureaucracy and some succeeded while others failed, even seemingly taking the same paths.
California generally classifies Dokas as Grey Market Vehicles, also known as "direct foreign import vehicle".
If this happens, being a diesel can technically hurt rather than help.
Here are some paragraphs from State of Calif DMV:
"If your direct foreign import vehicle was not originally manufactured to meet California emissions standards and DOT FMVSS, the vehicle cannot be registered in California, unless the vehicle is modified and tested under CARB’s direct import program.
Motorcycles, off-highway vehicles, and diesel-powered vehicles cannot be converted to California emissions standards at this time. Therefore, they cannot be registered in California unless they were originally manufactured to meet U.S. and California emissions standards."

crazyvwvanman, thank you kindly. This is very helpful, I didn't know Dokas is a Grey Market Vehicles. Is there anybody lives in CA who owns a DOKA by any chance? |
