|
|
I am in the process of rebuilding my 71 Super beetle which has been completely stripped down with the body removed for painting. Like my title says. I'm not too far away from reinstalling the body on the pan. My question is...Is there much advantage setting up front suspension first ?
I think I know the answer to this but would be interested to hear from those that have done this.
As usual thanks in advance for any advice. |

I would install all body to pan bolts first, then install struts.
From my experience, the strut springs tend to keep the front of body lifted requiring tightening body bolts from rear to front in order to compress springs.
You may get around this by using a strut spring compressor on both struts so the struts can be put in place without them lifting the front as you bolt the body to the pan.
It’s just easier to deal with if the struts are not a factor, you want a good body to pan fit.

Install your rear heat ducts before installing the body to the chassis. The front suspension can be done after the body is on due to the extra weight. |
