Curious if a 2.0 liter from a 1977 bus will fit into a 1982 vanagon air cooled unit. Is the moustache bar bolt pattern going to mate to the earlier case? Are the heater boxes on the earlier motor going to mate to the later chassis? I imagine the cylinder heads on earlier motor may not mate to the later exhaust system that I have. Thoughts? |

you have to keep the cooling tin & Alt that goes with the vehicle.
it's different between the 2 chassis.
you have to keep the exhaust/heaters that goes to the engine..
the header ports are different from Bay to van and the Heater boxes will NOT connect to the fan input, so you WILL HAVE TO remove the tin skins from the heater boxes to not heatsoak the cylinder heads/valves
the 4 fan shroud bolts and the engine carrier bar bolts are different sizes (8mm for Bay, 10mm for Van) that's a old IIRC thing so check/verify.
the BAY dipstick will need to be fitted around the Van Alt & shroud
the Vanagon dipstick came straight up and curved backwards. you may be able to recreate that arrangement if you are handy & clever.
there may be clearance issues in the Bay exhaust on the vanagon fan shroud?
all I know is there was/are spacers for the muffler on one of the models. so that should be investigated.
probably something else too, but good luck. _________________
