My rear shift rod bushing is binding.
It appears that the shift lever cup must be removed in order to slide off the rear bushing. There is a roll pin holding the lever cup in place. Is there a way to remove the pin without destroying it? I do not have a replacement pin.
Maybe I can try to press it out with a clamp?
There is a Fastenal in my town. They might have a replacement pin. Does anyone know the size? Thanks |

It is possible to remove the pin and reuse but given the age of the pin and exposure to the elements, you might end up damaging the pin to destroy it.
Van cafe has free shipping - the part below is $3.84

...but I did not read the fine print (or maybe it was added in later) - free shipping over $99. My bad.
OP it is $6 for shipping for just that pin. Sorry I don't know if you can find this at a hardware store. _________________ Brandon

Thankee Shagginwagon.
My pin is newish. I am going to need to try to press it out carefully.
I have a 7 hour drive to Wrigley Field to catch Dead and Company tomorrow. I even have a parking spot on the mini Shakedown Street.
Wish me luck! |

First, for the OP, you can find that pin at your local True Value/Ace for like $0.65
Second for Shagginwagon - yeah, that shipping thread was/is a cluster****. After-edited, moderated to remove relevant fact-based info...My main point in my replies was that - LIKE YOU, and you are smarter than the average bear - the title and content is mis-representative. It too several go arounds for the post even to get the $99 requirement added to the initial post. They STILL haven't changed the title so it continues to purport something it is not.
and its not "free", its just increased the price to cover shipping so if you buy more or less than $99 you are paying extra - kinda like paying for shipping twice :-/ ...It ain't worth the cookie _________________ 83.5 Westy with Subaru 2.5, 4 spd manual, center seat, COLD A/C on 134a!, Winter camp heated with an Espar B4 gasoline furnace

Just yesterday, i assembled and re-assembled the cup with hitting the pin with a hammer out and back in, three times in a row. Each time i think it was wedged in there pretty good and it won't disassemble by its own. AFAIK the pin is original and it's holding ok. Might be just my case. _________________ God of rust, have mercy.

The life of that pin is going to change considerable from place to place. In Oregon where my rigs have never seen salt, I would expect that it could be removed with ease and then reused without issue, while in an area that sees frequent snow and road salts it might be a bear to remove and reuse might be out of the question. |

Left the pin alone.
Cleaned and lubed everything as best as possible. But couldn’t enlarge inner diameter at all.
Changed gear oil to Swepco 210.
12 miles from the show….now all I need is a ticket!
Thanks for the tip on Ace Hardware. They are everywhere. |
