I am in the final steps of my wbx 2.1 rebuild project and run into the problem in installing the exhaust system. I found I am unable to line up the holes to screw in the nuts at the bottom of the covers. I am wondering if I have messed up by installing them on the wrong sides. Does anyone know for sure that the covers are side specific and have to be installed on the correct side? Thanks in advance for any help. |

if you are talking about the push rod tube shields, they are side specific. the one with the big cut out is for the oil filter. i ran without them for about 10,000 miles and then went with the Go Westy steel version that is detachable without removing the exhaust header nuts. _________________ 1991 Vanagon GL Camper

Thank you so much for the quick reply. I noticed that the driver side shield seems to get in the way of the oil cooler and the holes at the bottom don't line up. Oh well, I guess a couple of hours of R/R of the shields has to be done now. |

Swapped the pushrod shields and found all holes lined up perfectly. These shields were from a 1.9 engine in fact. They still fit perfectly. Completed reassembling the exhaust and ready to start the engine. Keep my fingers crossed and hope it goes well. |
