Depends. Is it an early 59 or later?
If it is a late 59 it will work without modification. Yuo need to shorten the cables if it is an early 59. |

It's an early 59 with the shifter closer to the seat. |

The boat rigging shop had them in stock. They are not "correct" but fit. |

On my DD (early 60) I used the later cable (64 and later) with the big nut. It is way to long so I cut it off, got some dune buggy clutch cable shorteners and put those on. I fill the hole with JB weld before slipping over the cable abd tightened the set screw. 63,000 plus miles and it still held fine. When I lowerd the bus with the straight axle kit, the cables became to short and had to do the whole process over again.
I have had to do this to all my buses being I have converted them all to big nut trannys from small nut _________________ Stocking distributor of "The Funky Green Panels"

I've seen that hodge podge you call a 23window. All slapped together with vanagon parts and such. Just kidding, just kidding. You know the respect I have for your knowledge. I was just acting like a Catholic school girl and wanted to get confirmation. (rim shot ) thank you I will be here all week.
Sorry about that hole vanagon parts jibba jabba too. I know better than that. _________________ Oil Capital Air Cooled

Excellent question my good man. One I ask myself every time I see the bus. The PO or PPO did it for God knows what reason. Its not my bus but rather a friend of mines who I am helping to get it running. We have had no luck coming up with a working 12V big nut, or any big nut for that matter, in the yards around here. It doesnt help that he aint rich. I tried to tell him this wasnt a poor mans hobby when he wanted in but he was determined. _________________ Oil Capital Air Cooled

That's a good simple fix that sounds like it will hold up. Thanks. |
