What is it?

Is it a Deluxe?

Is it a Euro?
Definitely think it’s a Euro.
Now I have 2 Euros….

It has good bones and will be a fun project.

You've got luck...all that space. I had to give up an early "64 because had no space to work on it. Too many cars - too little time.

If the front turn signal lenses appear to be original, it would likely be a Euro. U.S. used clear for '63 (and several other years I'm sure).

Looks like a nice foundation! Looking forward to seeing what you do with it. Smile

Thanks guys.

Gulf Blue, I can dig it.

The reasons I say it’s a Euro are:
Fhart/Start column lock, Amber and red tail light lens and those crazy seatbelts.

Where the rims painted solid blue from the factory or were they two tone? The rims that are on the car are painted solid, but I get two tone and solid when I google it.

Steering lock was somewhat common , and easy to add.- what does the wiring to it look like vs. the ignition switch in the usual place? One is original and most people aren't super good at matching stock wiring for that kind of stuff. Front apron over rider bracket holes look original, as do the rear...63' would still have had euro bumpers?
And you can't go by the euro colored lenses- that's just about the easiest thing to swap on the entire car.
Is the speedo in KM's? If not and the date stamp on the back seems to match, then likely not euro. That's what I'd trust as much as anything.

They would have come painted Kings Blue and Misty Grey two tone from the factory.
Funny, it translates to Royal Blue and Fog Grey (which actually makes more sense) if you look up the German names.

A US market '63 should have come with seat belt mounts in the tunnel and in the B pillar. To me the eyelet style belt mounts (installed inboard of the seat rails no less) points toward the car having belts added later in its life -- the instructions for dealer added belts wouldn't have positioned them in such a location.

One can't go off the "US spec" bumpers since they were actually a factory option in all markets (see here and here for examples of Euro cars with these bumpers). Similarly, they would have been required to be added before the car could leave the port if it was a Euro market import.

Personally, I think it's quite plausible that the car was originally sold in a European market then subsequently brought over by private party or more likely by a grey market importer.

Regardless of its provenance, it looks like a decent car worthy of keeping around and enjoying.

Interesting that they weren’t painted Gulf Blue to match the car.

The outer looks white. I’m guessing Fog Grey is a very light Grey.

Found this pic from 2017 that is supposed to be a survivor. The blue does look a bit off from the gulf

Obviously the car has been repainted a lighter blue at some point in its life. I’m sure I can find two colors that will be close enough.

I am not so sure those weren’t repainted, at least the white part.
Here are some pics of the spare from the same car.

Wasn't it common for wheel color to be slightly darker than body color? Example: ruby red car with cadmium red wheels. Or not for this year/blue?

It's a keeper.

Why does that rug in the back look familiar? I thought I saw one on another car.

^Thats a good looking car. I bet that paint will buff right up.

This car won’t be on the road for awhile. I’m shooting for May 2025. My current plan is to do the chassis this summer, build the engine over the winter and stab it in next spring. We’ll see how that goes. 🤷‍♂️

I can cruise with you in my ‘65, that car is a ripper! That build and my bus build is in my signature line.

Unfortunately I did not get anything done on the car this weekend. It snowed sideways all day yesterday, so that just left today and I had other shit to do. I did get the donor broke down a bunch and put on the engine stand this morning. Then I did a bunch of stuff and worked on my bus. I changed the oil, adjusted the valves, new cork gaskets and rotated the tires. So, at least I was Vdubin.

Donor motor. I hoping to be able to use the case, heads, crank, intake, dizzy, alt stand, heat exchangers and all the tin from this motor.
