Wish I could help, since I was recently in the same exact need of a 914-savvy mechanic. I'm in the Sacto area, north of you, and too many of the erstwhile 'Independent Porsche specialist' services decline to work on 914s (calling it 'old stuff' technology and apparently finding greater profitability in late model water-suckers). Of course, the irony is that 'old stuff' includes those inimitably wonderful 356 types (that also have 'air sucker, old-stuff' technology), which garages willingly accept for service.
This suggests to me that, aside from the mid-engine position being slightly more difficult to work on, there still exists a significant amount of '914s-aren't-REAL-Porsches' snobbery out there in Porscheland! The 914 was born under a wandering star, as a supposedly 'low-cost, introductory Porsche love-child of the 70s' and I fear some of that snarky disdain remains today (despite all the declamations by 'feel-gooders' among us that that just isn't so...).
Also a sign of changing times and fortunes in California Porsche shops? Perhaps that too, but still...finding a GOOD 914-savvy mechanic is almost as difficult as finding certain parts for our favorite vehicle (like speedometer cables, now that GEMO is unavailable).
Bottom line: Good luck in your quest to find a local 914-doctor. Meanwhile, keep the faith and perhaps you'll soon connect with a good one!
