Thank you for posting those wheels! They have them in wide five smoothies too!

I have a set of 15x8s coming for my 70 Std.
I’ve always wanted bigger tire on the rear of my Bug,,
Now I’m wondering which tire size to go with.
They’re going on the rear of the Bug, so I’m wondering if a 245/60-15 or a 255/60 -15 would be better.
There’s less than a half inch difference in tire height, but I read in some places that 245 is the max for an 8” wheel… _________________ ~ No matter where you go......there you are ~

I would think maybe a 225/60 or 235/60, max. But, I can wait to see how they fit. Do you have stock fenders? And did you order them directly from US wheel? _________________ 1973 standard, yellow, lowered, 3” narrowed front, 1600 blo-thru turbo w/single dell 15.4@86, so far

Not a chance. Not without a wider fender.
Years ago, I fitted 225/50/15s on an 8" wheel. I had to replace the forward bolt holding the TA to the spring plate with a flat head bolt. Then on the outside, I had to stretch the fender arch. This gave me about 1/8" clearance in both places.
Even though I had a tall geared trans to deal with the short tires, overall gearing was a bit too low for my liking. I looked and couldn't find a 225/55/15. Eventually I went with a 215/60. _________________

Thanks for your input.
I called US Wheel and changed my order to a 7” wide wheel instead.
Probably going to go with a 215/60 tire.. _________________ ~ No matter where you go......there you are ~

Seems more reasonable. I think those 7’s will fit stock fenders. Fingers crossed. _________________ 1973 standard, yellow, lowered, 3” narrowed front, 1600 blo-thru turbo w/single dell 15.4@86, so far

Running the 5x15 front, w /195/65-15 and the 7×15 rear with 235/60-15. These are really nice wheels and so far (5+yrs.) chrome still good. I have 3" wider fenders so I can't speak to stock clearance, but can certainly recommend these wheels. _________________ "A life of peace and happiness depends on your own gratefulness" |

I’m running stock fenders and my 5.5” wheels have a lot of room.
Got the wheels recently and found two issues: 1) two hammer marks on the outer front edge of the wheel. They are sending me a replacement as we speak. 2) the center of the wheel (which would be under the hubcap in most cases) is a rough, non-polished chrome finish and I didn’t run hubcaps on the 5.5s that are in the car now…
Guess I’m either going to have to live with the finish difference or put a set of black satin moons on them..

The center doesn’t look that bad. I don’t run hub caps either. _________________ 1973 standard, yellow, lowered, 3” narrowed front, 1600 blo-thru turbo w/single dell 15.4@86, so far

Paint it black?
What do they weigh? _________________

I don’t know what they weight but frankly, they aren’t they much heavier than the 5.5s I’ve had in the car prior.
I got the 215/60-15s mounted and put them on my car.
They fit exactly the way I wished they would - snug up to the edge of the wheel well, but not rubbing !
They are perfect ! 👍🏼 _________________ ~ No matter where you go......there you are ~

Looks really good. That offset should be on all VW wheels. I just may copy the rim and tire size. _________________ 1973 standard, yellow, lowered, 3” narrowed front, 1600 blo-thru turbo w/single dell 15.4@86, so far

I agree. The tires are pretty wide and most of it is inside the wheel well.
The look from the rear is perfect and I’m pretty sure this will increase my rear grip dramatically.
No clearance issues either - not too close to the spring arm and my rear disc brake setup has lots of room!
They honestly look like they were alway meant to be there! _________________ ~ No matter where you go......there you are ~

I see US Wheel isn’t listing the 7” and 8” stock chromies. Wonder if that’s temporary. _________________ 1973 standard, yellow, lowered, 3” narrowed front, 1600 blo-thru turbo w/single dell 15.4@86, so far

I’d call them to see. They were pretty responsive when I was dealing with them.. _________________ ~ No matter where you go......there you are ~
