A cash register and a Beetle

I picked my customers beetle from the front end shop after an alignment and the shop owner which I have known for years tells me this tale.

When he was 19 (he's 60 something ) now, his girlfriend was working in a bar and some guy came in and stole the Cash register and had it on the front of a Beetle and was driving away, so my Buddy Carl chased after him down this alley and was just able to reach the bug as it drove away. While within reach he grabbed the decklid handle and opened the lid and reached in and grabbed the coil wire.

The car stopped and he had a few words with the driver and opened the door and took the register back. I don't know anymore then that but thought it was a funny story.
