Why did the instructions from my new generator state the generator should be polarized by jumping from the +battery to the DF?
Every book or article i have read states to polarize the generator, jump from +battery to D+? Not to DF
Any ideas? is either way correct?
here is an article on polarizing and Generator checking:

I have always used D+ without any problems. _________________ .

Autolite rebuild?
Just do it the way it says in the manual _________________ Your Vanagon sucks, Stop waving at me.

Yip, Autolite, (can't beat the price !)
When I used their polorizing method, the dash light wouldn't go out and would get brighter with engine speed. So I guessed the poles were backwards. I then polorized using the Bently instructions and now it works fine.
So what's up with those Autolite instructions anyway? Are they for a generator that spins the opposite direction? I noticed in their diagram, the pulley is on the fan side. |

Could be. Both of them were like that with the two I bought. The 6 volt one I got from them was actually a thin slot generator! _________________ Your Vanagon sucks, Stop waving at me.

Looking to get some definitive confirmation I am polarizing my 6 volt generator correctly. It's been a few years and I don't want any 6 volt casualties on my hands. My generator looks like this one:
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/938289.jpg
Unhook all wires from regulator, jump the generator D+/61 wires to battery +
(there are two (2) of these wires on the RIGHT side of the generator). I do want to jump BOTH wires to battery +, right?
AND jump DF (F) to ground.
(single wire on LEFT side of generator)
Let spin for only a couple seconds, done. _________________ WANTED:

I've used your method successfully, except that I've never connected battery + to the wire goes to the 61 terminal. _________________ Please buy my Treasure |
