Looking for advice on paint brands. In the 1990's I worked as a painter and would use mostly PPG Deltron and concept. My favorite Dupont paint was centari acrylic enamel. Obviously, I haven't painted in years but it's time to get out my gun and paint my bay window bus. All the old shops are long gone and need to pick a new one. What single stage paints are you guys having the best luck with these days? |

I can only speak for myself, but I've always painted my own vehicles-- not perfectly, but by myself. There is a load of factors to consider. Let's see--
Daily driver, weekend warrior, garaged or not, super shiny 2 stage or 1 stage, going camping or overlanding, cost/quality/composition or chemistry, and so forth. That being said, let us hear some more influencing factors or concerns.
I'm a firm believer in going where I want, dings and scratches may happen, I can touch up , but you gotta enjoy your ride the way you want to. Also of the opinion that clear coat does not belong on a car that is not orig 2 stage.
Since you can paint it yourself- Bravo!!! You'll be saving thousands, but don't let that be a driving factor in buying $2500 in paint and supplies. You can get proper materials from about $600 -$1200, depending on which way you go. Sorry can't address your brand name choices, people will chime in insisting on specific ones, but consider the storage and use first. _________________ "A life of peace and happiness depends on your own gratefulness" |

Excellent question! I find myself in exactly the same position. I do not recognize the paint brands people talk about today. The brands I worked with are Dupont, PPG, RM and Endura. _________________ Our cars get old, we get old but driving an old VW never gets old! |
