make some hard pulls in third gear through its full range, letting the engine bring you back down to the lower RPM. do this at least 10 times as soon as you can. use engine braking when coming back down the hill too.

You don't think it will be too much ??? I have got a 10 mile up hill stretch to do.

Drive it like you stole it. What’s most critical is to not hold a constant rpm like highway use. Hard driving for an hour with break in oil should do it. Back in the day chrome top rings took some time. Change the oil and filter 500 to 1000 miles.

i think 10 miles is too much UNLESS you can lift your foot off the accelerator and coast (uphill??) periodically. essentially, you want to be 'engine braking' frequently to promote sucking oil past the rings. ain't gonna happen if the throttle is floored for 10 miles. can you put a couple hundred miles on before doing the hill?
