To me, it sounds like chrome plate'rs are afraid of liability issues and maybe the surface rust. I'd have the powder coater do a nice color to compliment the buggy. I have had the pipe on my shifter kart pc'd with silver, and after they tumble polished it, it looks better than "the bottom of a soda can" but not as good as chrome plated.(he couldn't figure out why he had to change the media so many times, he was also cleaning the inside of the pipe for me. haha)

I’m having some issue with my buggy rims. I’ve already posted this but was recommended to post it in this forum,
The issue is the rims I have need to be refinished, but since I’m located in Utah where there seemingly isn’t any chrome finishing companies willing to touch my rims, I can’t find any genuine chrome refinishing. So I went to my alternative idea of powder coating,

So I went to go drop them off at the powder coat place and after talking to the guy who runs the shop, it seems all chrome powders are poor at best.

He described the result as the bottom of a pop can

I thought this could be attributed to inexperience or poor performance, however after calling 10 more powder coating shops from southern Utah to norther Idaho…I’m coming to the conclusion that Chrome powder coat isn’t much a chrome but rather a dull gray?

I looked on a few forums on Reddit and still not much else other than it turns to a dull color.

I’m not to experienced in powder coating specifically but i feel I have a reasonable understanding of how it works…so this is a bit frustrating and confusing to me.

Any ideas?

These rims are kinda specialty and hard to find so ideally I’d like to keep these rims.

I’m tempted to paint them at this point? Maybe I’m crazy.

Any suggestions would be appreciated
