Been slow going lately. Been very busy with clients cars so not much time on my own project.

One of the weekends I had my son up so I can teach him how to weld sheet metal. We need to put a front clip on his car and my plan is to have him weld my pan patches for me. I think it will be a good challenge for him in preparation for him to weld his front clip on. We started out with him prepping the pan patches and then I had him get comfortable and start to learn the stitching process. He did fantastic. Super proud of him.

I did get the firewall I wanted so that’s cool. I plan to be able to spend the next Sunday coming up on the Standard. Looking forward to getting back on it. I think I will focus on the firewall and the motor. If all goes well I will install the motor at the end of the day.

This morning I trimmed up the donor pan sections and got them screwed into place then used weld through primer to mark the areas I will cut and clean for welding. When I remove the donors the paint line should tell me just what I need to know.

Today I made some brackets for my fog lights and incorporate an old bumper bar

The thing was when it was all sitting up there I just wasn’t really feeling it. I didn’t dislike it entirely I just was in love with it. I think maybe because the fog light are so nice. Maybe if I fotina them they would look the look. ???

Going through my parts stash a found these made in Taiwan vintage Empi rain guards and these random chrome seat recliner brackets, vintage blue dot light reflectors, vintage Empi hood handle guard and this strange Hella map/interior light, not sure what it is off of?

I picked up this super old Scat remote oil filter set up.

I just love stuff like this. Old and unusual…. Just like me. Haha

I have the other one (I believe is Empi) that I started mocking up on the motor. I’m pretty sure I’m sticking with that one. I do like having options though.

This one would most likely end up in a place other then on the fan shroud if I use it.

So the wood slat rack I’m running has been with me for a long time. It came on the bug we gave our daughter but I saved it for one of my projects. The legs have been lowered down close to the roof for a different look.

When we built and gave our son his bug he wanted to barrow the rack so I let him. One day he came up to visit and a saw he only had one clap holding it on, the second one was missing. I couldn’t believe it stayed on the whole drive up to the property. That was the day I took it back off loan.

We picked up a new replacement clamp but as you can imagine is does not match the patina at all.

I blasted it and then soaked it down with a mixture of water , bleach, and salt… I’m sure in just a day or two it will ready to mount and look likes it’s always been there.

One of the main reasons I’m running smoothies is because all five of these are original to the Kar. I could buy pimp rims and I have had some pretty tricks ones but I’m going back to the basics. I have this Firestone 145 I’m going to mount on the spare rim. Unfortunately this “Shell Comfort Ride” is beat.

It’s no surprise I really like vintage Empi and all it stands for in this industry. It was a leader and a pioneer. It fed the passion of the people that fell in love with the VW.

I was so honored to receive this Vintage Empi catalog in the mail from a very generous member here on TS. It’s not often folks would bless someone they don’t know so abundantly. Also included was this very early Hot VW mag from before I was even born.

This was a wonderful and highly appreciated Christmas gift from a person that see’s value in a different light. For that…. I truly Thank You!!!

I got a few more parts in to push me forward.

12 v dome light bulb and 12 v parking light bulbs also got headlight seals and outer bearings.

I did order this firewall from WW but I definitely don’t like it. I’m partial to the style with the waffle pattern. Although this would be correct for this beetle I just don’t like it.
