You've just forgotten how uncomfortable it is to have your forearm resting against the wingwindow upright since you haven't driven one since the 90's. I'm not about to change out my stock windows, but I've given up trying to hang my elbow out the window because it's just not comfortable.

I've had one piece windows in my 65 bug since 1985. I like them and no rattles. I did drive a friends stock bug a few years and wasn't thinking when I put my arm out the window. Hit the vent window post and took a chunk out of my fore arm. Blood all over the door and door panel and me. Too uncomfortable with vent windows for me also.

Hey Mike, I like my vent windows, still have them, briefly thought about ditching them. I have added the 'c' pillars back & am trying to get together some pictures to start a post. But back to the OP, he is aware of the rattles, loss of extra air coming in, is aware he needs some different check straps, if he wants to drive over to the darkside, come on over. Fresh baked cookies & milk for all. _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |

Hey guys,
This is an old conversation but the questions regarding 1 pc and 2 pc glass will never die.
I installed 1 pc windows into my 65 bug many moons ago....they can be a bit tricky to make them work just right but it's not difficult. It's only my opinion but the 2 pc windows were designed beautifully and more buyers seem to want the original 2 pc setup when it comes time to part ways with your baby.
I recently purchased a 59 ragtop that came with 1 pc windows and I am attempting to revert them back to the original 2 pc setup. Basically, everyone that I've asked said it's "IMPOSSIBLE once the vent window tab has been severed". This has put me on a mission to prove them ALL wrong.
I was lucky enough to find a cool guy that had 2 smashed doors with every single part I needed to begin my mission. Before I start this operation....has ANYONE found success in getting the 2 pc windows back in. Any words of wisdom would greatly be appreciated. If not, wish me luck and photos to come soon. |

I think you could weld a new track in from the donor doors?
but it's probably easier to find new doors.
Thats' what I did on my '63

One of the previous owners of my bug already did the surgery on my windows. Drivers side glass was busted out and laying inside the door. I already bought a new set of glass and all the pieces to try and get windows again. Lower on the priority list, I gotta finish welding the body down, finish making the aftermarket rear apron fit, and put a headliner in.
I will keep my eye on this thread, and if any ideas appear on how to make the job easier, I will try them. _________________ 1968 Beetle (storage)

Old thread. I know. I bought an old bugpack one piece kit before they went out of business. Ruined one set of scrapers, so ordered an EMPI set. I put in the outside scraper first (small holes). My problem and question is, what to do about that long forward section from the last hole, to the curve of the door? Where the vent used to be? I put contact cement on that surface and let it dry overnight. Went out this morning and it came right off. The rest of the window looks OK except for that piece. I saw in another post somewhere someone used window urethane. What kind? Are we talking about the glue they use to put windshields in? What kind of glue is used to install the "glue in" window scrapers? I ordered another set of scrapers because I expected to ruin these trying, so I can experiment with this set. Do I need to either weld or epoxy some additional metal in there, and put in more clips? 3M Windo-Weld? I don't want to try the inside scraper until I get this one to stick. _________________ 1968 Beetle (storage)
