Seat rebuild Question

Rebuilding seat Q.
I need to replace some of the seat attachment pieces (barbs), See pic.
Couple of Questions.
1. Do I need to take the broken ones off or can I put the New Barbs next to the broken ones?
2. How to attach the new ones weld them on or can you drill a hole in them and them attach with a screw?

You can grind the old welded ones off it you want and can either weld the new ones on, use a sheet metal screw, or pop rivet.

And you do not have to take the old ones off if you don't want to. You could flatten or cut off what was left but putting the new ones beside them would work just fine.
