1974 VW Thing
I have two holes in my dash where I assume something was at one time. See the Pictures. Can you help me figure out what goes in them? I believe the one on the right is a cigarette lighter. I want to get it as authentic as possible. Thanks.

Cigarette lighter on the right, and a dash plug on the left for a 1974 Thing.

Hole on the right is not necessarily for a cigarette lighter. In most cases it was the power for the accessory search light as shown in this foto. _________________ Supposed to be 77käfer, but there are no umlauts on an american keyboard

My Thing was a '73 and had a rear fog light pull switch on the left side (required in Europe) and the gas heater turn timer switch on the right side. _________________ '56 pan Dune Buggy since '69

The '74 model came from the factory with both holes plugged. The cigarette lighter was a dealer option, which never match the other knobs. The '73 model came with the 12v power plug in the hole on the right. The power plug (outlet) was primarily used for a inspection light or trouble light not a spot light but could be used for any accessory that would require 12v. |

The hole just to the left of the speedo is filled with a rubber plug, visible in the photos.
(the right one isn't there on this car since gauge were put in)
