I'm new to this and not to familiar with the forum.
I have a 66 bug with a 2276 motor. The bug started running rough the other day so I began to see if I could figure it out. When when attempting to synchronize the carbs the synchrometer, all cylinders showed five on the test but cylinder 3 showed 0.

Any ideas? Suggestions?
New plugs, new spark plug wires, Flame Thrower coil and new distributor and new fuel filters. The engine was also timed.

Sorry for the dumb questions

Welcome!
What synch tool are you using? I’m interested in how it can identify individual cylinder performance. The one I use displays the total vacuum pulled by each carb (each carb feeds two cylinders) and displays the difference between the two carbs. Meanwhile, sounds like you have looked at the basics so far. Have you checked for any air leaks downstream of the carbs? If you’ve verified spark at each cylinder arriving when expected, fuel flowing normally, and clean air filters, then it may be time for a compression check.

Before turning anything. Clean your idle jet. IDFs are famous for clogging them. After that install a better filter.

Good luck!

Answer is in topic heading, 48 IDF. These have 4 venturis, one for each cylinder; versus your carbs which (like mine) are single barrel carbs feeding two cylinders per carb.

Thanks! I’m assuming he still has but two carburetors. My question was, what synchrometer can discreetly identify the vacuum pulled by each cylinder?

I’m gonna go with the #3 wire isn’t fully plugged onto the spark plug. Damn near impossible to get your hand back there unless you have carb windows or you removed the carbs and intakes when you installed the new plugs and wires.

How are you keeping that engine cool? Are you using Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas to keep the carbs from boiling? Vented deck lid? What clutch? Where are you in Colorado? I have so many questions.
