I have a Wilwood Brake Conversion that uses EMPI rotors

The kit came with the drilled/slotted 22-2843-5 & 22-2843-6 (L&R) rotors. While the left has a "tolerable" wiggle to it, the right is ridiculous.

Check out this video I made. I lost my run-out gauge so I had to configure something.

At first you'd think the axle was maybe bent. I did too so I bought new axles. Same result.

Look at the axle in relation to the wood block. No movement.
Look at the hat where the wheel sits against it. It has more variation than a Harley crank.

So I purchased a set of 22-2843-7 universal left/right solid rotors to see if it was different. Nope.

Its as if their casting for the 22-2843 is completely out of alignment. The spline section in relation to the rest of the disc is out of axis.

Im done with trying to work with EMPI rotors. Anyone else make rear rotors?

Hi

I bought these and it utilizes Vw Rabbit MK1 rotors and calipers

Way better than Empi and parts for rabbit is extremely cheap and readily available

The hubs are drilled 4x100 and 5 x100 so you can use VR6 mk3 rotors and calipers

CB sells some decent reasonably priced brake kits, get the Race Strength rears, not the Roto Hub style (seperarw rotor/hub not one piece)

Willwood is great. The use a composite on their mastercylinders seems to not be corroded like my empis did.

A little off the beaten path for us in the States, but the Sebro rotors available from CSP in Germany are very precise

At this point i'd walk a mile (or as it turns out, 5,855 miles) off the beaten path for better quality.

Thanks all!

Glad to see you got either the caliper brackets clearanced or the trailing arm clearanced. Not a big fan of EMPI (they really make nothing for type 4 vehicles anyway)....but I give credit where it's due. Their caliper brackets are actually very good.

But that rotor....damn.

Yes, Sebro are excellent and by the way so are Centric. I do not know 100% about centric calipers but their rotor and drum casting and coating tech has won industry awards. Even Ford uses Centric drums and rotors for dealer level replacement parts for models that are older than stocking requirements.

First, if you can measure your rotor or ask around (I am sure it's been revealed somewhere in the forums) and find out what year make and model the empi rotor is patterned on (virtually no one who makes kits makes custom rotors. They are all based on something)......you will probably find quite lot of places that sell that rotor in a good brand other than empi.

Sebro rotors are sold for a range of makes and models all over the US.

It it's a VW, BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Porsche application...maybe even a Volvo or Saab application...

Ecs Tuning
FCP Euro
AutohausAZ.....all carry Zimmerman, ATE and Sebro

If it's a Porsche 914, 911, 912 or an older BMW rotor that you can match up:
PMB Performance sells mostly Sebro and ATE.

For those not recommending a roto-hub style set up....the roto hub set up is precisely what allows you to use a super wide range of makes and models for rotors....because there are very few easily available cars that use a splined rear hub. Most do the classic drop on rotor that goes over the studs and is held in place by two screws or held in place two screws and uses lug bolts.

If you are just shopping around, if you can find out what other vehicle uses that rotor diameter and offset....go onto Rockauto and plug in that vehicle. You will typically find about a dozen rotors across 4 or 5 brands for each car. You will also find brands like ATE, Bosch, Zimmerman and Sebro at Rockauto.

I would have just taken the rotor back to the supplier and gotten a straight one. I've installed quite a few empi kits and never had a problem I couldn't easily fix. I've also spent 3 days trying to install $2000 per axle made in USA disk brakes conversions on muscle cars where nothing fit. Bad shit slips thru even to big name companies. Most of them will make good on bad parts

I found that my empi rotors were made of green cheese and replaced them with Ron Lummus/Strange brakes and they are a work of art and fit very well. I will probably replace the. master cylinder with a larger one, but they are very progressive with the CB piece that I have. Empi did replace the rears though.
