I know this is a bit earlier than this forum, but I've seen a '57 Beetle for sale that seems to be savable without a ton of money. But the drive line/pan is shot.
My question is this, can the '57 body be bolted to any swing axle Beetle, say '67 back to '57?
Thanks in advance, Dan |

You can even put it on an IRS pan by just relocating the rear body mounts. But check your states laws concerning VIN’s my advice would be to only buy the car AND the replacement pan if they each have a valid title. Yes two titles one car, just title it on the cars VIN, but have the valid title for the pan to avoid any issues with proving legal ownership. I’m doing exactly this plan for a 56. _________________ Looking for anything from Hal Casey Motors out of Hamburg New York, from license plate surrounds to matchbooks.

| The pan mount change was for the 69 and newer IRS pans where the rear mount is about 1 to 1.5 inches higher so the early body rear mount has to be cut and raised. I agree with pandora to get titles to both vehicles. I am doing this as I jhave a refurbished 74 pan that I will be putting my 67 body on so I can continue to use it while I restore the 67 pan and convert it to IRS. I also years ago put a 56 sunroof body on a 69 pan. |

| I just wanted to add that 1968 auto stick cars were also on an IRS pan. They did not have a tube for the clutch however so that would be a challenge if using that pan. |
