From the interwebs:

Collectable is an alternative spelling of the same word. Most dictionaries list is as an accepted variant.
As a general rule, collectable is the British spelling of the word, and it is much more common in British English than American English. |

Everett,
i appreciate you standing up for the poor spellers, but collectible is the proper form for the adjective, being of Latin origin.
And, yes, i have seen references that mention collectable as an acceptable variant. The dictionary people are simply giving in....
Still, as a noun it is absolutely collectible, even in british english.
We had the same thing happen in german where people struggled with certain words and they finally changed the spelling of them even if it violated the etymology.
Example: belemmert, always spelled belämmert, because people thought it came from "lamm" (lamb), which it didn't... The poor spellers won....

For whatever its worth, I learned form a very smart antiques dealer many years ago, that if the item says "collectible", it isn't. _________________ Stupidity should be a two minute penalty.
