I have just bought a Sterling Kit car that has a 1976 vw engine. The engine was freshly rebuilt two years ago and started one time. It ran fine. The owner passed away the week after this. The oil and gas has been out of the car all this time. I need suggestions on the steps to take to get this started. I do not want to ruin the engine. Should I put oil in the spark plug holes and let it sit for a day or so and then try to start it? Any help would be appreciated.

Well, I'd at least pull the plugs, squirt some oil or Marvel in the plug holes, fill the crankcase with oil, pull ignition wire from coil, and turn it over a while to clean the cylinders out and build oil pressure. Hopefully the fuel was run out of the carb before storage.

I'd give it a shot. Replace plugs, drain any old fuel out of the tank and add some fresh stuff. Check and adjust the valves. When it does crank up I'd let it run till nice and warm, then change the oil.

If the engine was in good working order 2 years ago, I'm sure you'll be fine.
