This is a kinda rip-off of the posting “VW’s in Films”, on the general chat.
It could be interesting to post the sightings of Ghias that you guys have seen in ads or shows on TV or movies. I have a few:
Get smart: Maxwell Smart drives up at the beginning of the show in what looks to be a ’69 or under Ghia ‘vert.
The old sixties drama, "The Fugitive”.
The posthumous video of the Doors song “LA Woman” – a yellow fat ‘vert on the very last frames of the video. |

One of the better displays of a Ghia I have seen is in the made-for-TV movie "A Gathering of Old Men" (1987), also known as "Murder on the Bayou", based on Ernest J. Gaines' novel. available on VHS and DVD. Will Patton's character drives a yellow mid-to-late '60's coupe, which he parks near the scene of a standoff between a group of elderly armed Blacks and a White sheriff, played by Richard Widmark. The Ghia appears in the background in numerous shots. At one point Widmark suggests to Patton that Patton throw his uncooperative girlfriend, played by Holly Hunter, "into the back seat of your car." Patton's understated reply "Have you seen my car?" rings true to anyone who has sampled the trials of Ghia back seat transport. Even the diminuative Hunter (not much over 5 ft. tall) could not find much comfort there!

Kill Bill Vol 2 - Uma Thurman
Sneakers - Robert Redford
If You Could See What I Hear - Marc Singer (plays a blind man in the movie. He's driving a Ghia vert packed with people because, "He was the only one of us who is sober")
Better off Dead - John Cusack. Ghia has a flat and that's all we see in the movie. _________________ West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, 319 U.S. 624 (1943)

There is a commercial running now where the wife drives up in her little blue Ghia and changes the flat tire on her husband's car. |

Was watching the original episode of the Dukes of Hazard and there was a blue early ghia in a junkyard scene. In the 3rd or 4th episode, Rosco sets up a road block and an early ghia vert and beetle go by. I should have remembered those from when I was about 10 years old watching it for the first time _________________ OG JHC

The girlfriend and I rented this movie at Hollywood video called, "City of God", it is a Brazilian movie with english subtitles about the slums of Rio. It was actually a decent movie but you have to actually sit and watch it (read too).
Anyway, the movie had a TON of VW's from police car bugs, buses and one of the getaway cars was a KG that they ran into a building. I was actually dreading it at first but I woke up when I started seeing all the VWs, then I got into the movie, it is fast paced and there are a lot of people you need to get to know but in all it was not bad. |

In the 1970 Mexican movie La Hermanita Dinamita ("The Dynamite Sister", or, in this case "The Dynamite Nurse"), Hilda Aguirre drives a red Ghia cabriolet. It must be a '67 or earlier because it has a curved shift lever. She thinks she runs over a boy in the street with it and goes to all kinds of comical lengths to help him in the hospital, posing as a novice nurse. Quite a few good views of the Ghia in the opening sequence. I bought the movie for my wife as part of a bargain grab bag of Spanish language DVDs on eBay and wouldn't know where to get it otherwise. Amazon does not list it.

Hi all. You could see a black ghia (70-71 I believe) rolling down the street in the very beginning of the movie "Swingers." A classic car for a classic movie. |

"Anchorman". Has it's moments, but there's a scene where Will Ferrel is driving along with his dog in the car. The camera pulls back to show he's crossign a long bridge. There's a quick glimpse of a yellow Ghia (fatchick) in the background. Looks sweet. _________________ West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, 319 U.S. 624 (1943) |
