I caught a glimpse of a Ghia on episode 6 of "The Vietnam War" on PBS last night. I couldn't grab a shot of it though. It's about 12 minutes in.

A blue coupe has appeared in the first two episodes of Stranger Things, season 2 on Netflix. It's parked in the lot of military facility where one of the main characters is taken periodically for debriefing.

Two different Ghia coupes can be seen driving by in street scenes from the 1987 film, 'Good Morning Viet Nam' starring the late, great Robin Williams.
The film is set in 1965 Siagon but it appears that the prop master didn't know his Karmann Ghias very well. That blue coupe in the first pic is a '70 or '71.

So how much of the $245k asking price is down to the fact that Uma Thurman drove it?

Well, lets do the math.
Previously up for sale for $85K. If we assume that it went for asking price then:
$245.000 - $85,000 = $160,000 markup
When I punch those numbers in my calculator I get $80K per Cheek (not a happy face.) That's one pricey hiney Shocked

Is it me or is a $245K price tag on anything not consistent with the typical Craigslist crowd?

Is the current seller flipping it? Even $85K seems ridiculous. If someone bought it to sell for more they made a huge mistake.

Given the number of screenshot photos in the listing I'd guess scam ad, but typically scam ads include a list price that's outrageously low. Maybe they're new to it and doing it wrong. Very Happy

For $245k you could buy a really nice Ghia AND a really nice 911, and have $100k left over to pay Uma Thurman to come take photos in each.

Agree with all the above Very Happy
It would be much less expensive to pay Uma to sit in your car for a while, maybe get lunch or a coffee. If you really want to...here is her booking agent. Get a free quote!!

Done. Her agent says she'll be in the UK filming early in 2018 and that she will be available for an interview for the prestigious magazine, "The Samba Karmann Ghia Monthly"

I've not yet told her the interview will be in the driver's seat of my '58 but I'm confident it should make a spectacular addition to my Samba Gallery pictures.

Watch this space. Very Happy

It is a neat idea - 911 power in a Ghia. But my big turn-off (besides the price!) is the tail lights! Why oh why did they mount them at an angle like that?

I bet the heat doesn’t work.

My 911 heat sucked. And my vert heat is great.

Hahaha

Cause its a fatchick and 60-69 taillights really don't fit. Think there is any filler on a "movie car" like that?

Id like to play photographer for John during his interview. I'll use Iowegian's camera. Cool

In the movie there are shots of headrests and shots of no headrests. Just FYI.

Also I watched a show on history yesterday about the zodiac killer...yeah one victim was killed behind a ghia. Sad

The story takes place at the turn of the year 60/70.
I wonder how many will show?
And here's a few photos from the film.

The movie appeared in cinemas in the middle of the year, but only yesterday I got a DVD version and I could copy a few shots from this movie with my blue Karmann in the background.

All day on the set and only two short scenes where you can see the car. Sad

Yep. In the closing credits she's driving the Ghia again, though you only see the interior and body top surfaces. Song grew on me very quickly.

Link

I also noticed in this video:
-she turns the steering wheel way more than the car is turning based on the road projection shots
-full-width rear shot: car seems to be jacked up high in front, based on the rearward slant of the driver's door compared to the left roadway shoulder
-Truck drives by in opposite lane but there is no excessive wind blast
-front fender shot shows the fat Cal-Look windshield rubber, but in other front shots you don't see the rubber (windshield removed?)
-inner rearview mirror is aimed downward in the full-width rear shot but seems to be "level" in front and partial rear shots; no doubt bent down to avoid either the camera or other studio equipment reflecting in the glass

A Karmann Ghia coupe can be seen cruising by marchers protesting the Viet Nam war in this 2016 PBS documentary about the White House.
