A light-colored coupe is parked at the curb as our subject car drives by in a scene from Martin Scorsese's 'Mean Streets', released in 1973.
Possibly another Ghia at the lower-right in the pic. Can't tell for sure...

Didn't think it was that much, but did think it was north of 100k. There paint jobs alone have to be at least 50k. |

Pardon the question, but when you say a paint job costs 50k, do you mean all the body prep up through the paint job? I can't imagine a paint job alone costing 50k. _________________ “If you care for a thing long enough, it takes on a life of its own, doesn't it? not your average run of the mill job. paint like kindig and other custom shops do. after body work, all the prep, and post prep after first coat. then final coats. more prep then clearcoat. then wet sand and polish. cant be cheap. 20yrs ago my brother painted my bug(no labor other than beer cost) took 3 days and 1500 bucks in color and clear. |

It all depends on how perfect you want it and the overhead costs of your endeavor.
Since there is no perfection in this world, achieving it takes a lot of fun or toil depending on how you look at it.
I’ve repainted some areas on my Ghia and it makes me wish I had painted the whole thing to begin with.
To try to keep on topic, I saw a Ghia in an episode of Ridiculousness.
Can’t tell you which one though. _________________ Volkswagen!

On a recent show they said they had been working on a car for more than a year to paint it. Seems crazy but I guess that is what perfection takes. _________________ Ghia Owner Emeritus |

Light blue Ghia and a few beetles in movie Just Mercy in parking lot at the prison. Only noticed Ghia once and Beatles show up a few times. |

An early-'70s convertible steals the scene in S4, Ep15 of the prime-time soap opera, 'This Is Us' on NBC TV.

Beetle front bumper. Yikes, the things they do. |
Yes, that's the whole point of the commercial.
If you use a Beetle front bumper on a Karmann Ghia, then you should Get Smarter.

This sad decomposing Ghia convertible showed up on TV in last night's episode of Chasing Classic Cars (S15, ep4). Wayne was at Dodi's Auto Sales in Monterey CA looking for some PoS to show at the 2019 Concours d' Lemons.

Terrible rust for a Ghia "found" in Calif., though possibly if left outside close to the ocean and affected by decades of the constant salty air breeze.
Nice looking late '60's Siata Spring (Italian) next to it. My parents gave me a subscription to Car & Driver magazine in ~ 1969 and I remember when that car was featured. |
