The modestly powered Ghia passing the Alfa! If Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman, the Alfa's driver) were Italian, he'd have sped up and passed it to save face. Too bad this screen shot is about 20% stretched... would be easy to shrink down and crop out the black borders top and bottom with photo editing. I've seen it in the Gallery in another recent post (VWs in movies?) but at least it's a reasonably sharp quality.

Shot with an iPhone off an iPad. Screen grab not available.

Ben is passing the Ghia in the movie.

Trylon posted this photo today from "The Graduate" (1967), but IMO it was significantly distorted/"stretched".
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

With his consent I modified it slightly, narrowing it approx. 20-25% to appear more realistic. Also cropped out the large black borders, lightened the shadows, rotated 0.5 degree CW, and straightened out the distortion towards the upper right. Very similar to photos from Don Radomski and rcooled. The Alfa Duetto Spyder is driven by main character Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman) on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge in California.

I'm sure my '58 Ghia has travelled that bridge hundreds of times during its 49 years of Berkeley to SF daily commute.

2x a day 5 times a week = 10 x a week = 520 x a year = 25,480 times in 49 years. Now even if she didn't drive to work everyday .......
2x a day 4 times a week = 8 x a week = 416 x a year = 20,383 in 49 years.

The 'Graduate Ghia' has been mentioned at least twice before in this thread...on pages 13 & 16. Photos aren't as sharp as the one you enhanced though...

From 2010:

Gone in 60 seconds (the original 74)

Lots of Vws everywhere ghia at 2;16 2;28 and at the end on the bridge at 7;30

It's amazing the number of Vws in the streets...a lot of type 3 also ...and the 70 style fashion

enjoy

Claude

I did not watch Claude's linked movie, though last year I watched the long movie-end chase segment closely for any Ghias. Likely the one he mentions above "on the bridge" is this one- a 2-tone early Ghia is on the bridge to or from Terminal Island, Long Beach, California. Seen from the yellow Mustang "Eleanor".
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Also this one, easily missed, as Maindrian Pace (H.B. Halicki) driving the Mustang is finally leaving the large dirt vacant property in Carson (you can see the Mustang in background above the police car hood) and gets back on the paved streets. The Ghia is not hit. Low-light! Cool

(Sorry if this has been posted already)

A Facebook friend posted a small clip from a 1984 made-for-TV movie "Attack On Fear," that showed actor Paul Michael Glaser (of Starsky & Hutch fame) driving a Karmann Ghia of unknown year. I do not know how or where they came across the film clip, but here's a screen shot that I made.

Could very well be?!?! I asked my Facebook friend where they found the video clip, and apparently they were doing some Starsky & Hutch research, and somehow or other came across some Paul Michael Glaser web site or account somewhere, where it was posted. I will ask again specifically where the clip was found, as there are other views of the car from different angles.

Okay, try this, if you're Facebook compatible:

https://www.facebook.com/jett.starr.5/videos/10218716508405380

EDIT: Having some experience with Ghias & Ghia seats, it's my observation Glaser seems to sit fairly "tall in the saddle" in that Ghia. He's not a small guy, listed at 5'11", but I still wonder if some "Hollywood Magic" (like, say, a seat cushion or two) might've been employed...

EDIT #2: I'm not sure if this is the whole movie or not (maybe just a part of it), but check this out--more scenes with the Ghia in it:

That Ghia is heavily modified from possibly a Brazilian model...rear lights not the Euro type, hubcaps later style, "VOLKSWAGEN" script alongside the rear licence plate, no front nostrils and the convertible top sits too low to be a stock Euro hood etc.

Bit of a bastard really.

Movie "Brewster McCloud" (1970) filmed in Houston, Texas. Old man Abraham Wright (Stacy Keach) rolls past a parked pale yellow Ghia Coupe while in his runaway wheelchair. I don't see the red reflector on the upper part of the rear quarter panel that would be on a '68/'69, and the wider rear axle stance points to a '67. Color is probably Castilian Yellow as it appears to be more yellow than the ivory-like Lotus White. IMDB lists the location as 1 Main Street in Houston.
