I'm curious as to what jet sizes I should be using in stock 72 bus carbs when they are on a stock 79 2 liter with hydraulic lifters and stock 72 bus exhaust.
I'm far more interested in quiet reliability than amazing performance. I also have collector licence plates coming so I can't change the appearance of the engine compartment drastically.
The westy runs great with the carbs set up just as they came off the 1700 but I'm sure I'm running lean on the highway and don't want to cook anything. I'm rebushing a pair of 74-75 carbs now (better return spring setup) and might as well do the jet changes too.
I plan on mostly highway trips. Anyone done the math on this one before? Can I bore out the stock carbs? Is there a better carb that has an auto choke and fits the stock aircleaner?
Thanks. |

You don't need to bore out the stock carbs, they have more than enough breathability to keep a stock 2 L engine happy.
Ask anyone in England or Europe for the specs on carbureted buses with the 2 liter engine. They used the PDSIT carbs through the entire bay window model run.

Thanks, that's encouraging news. Now I need a jet chart for a 78-79 European non Fi type 4 powered bus. |
