I was in the riverside area earlier this year and was going through one of the local classifieds for cars and there was a business that sold used newer cars called ECONO......could this be where all the checkered corner plate frames are coming from? |

I have seen so many of those plate frames floating around even on the big auction site....I never stopped by that car dealership in Riverside to see if every car on the lot had them but someone in the area could snoop it out or at least call information for Riverside and get the business address to check it out.......they just say Riverside on top and ECONO on the bottom. |

Okay Coad ! I've been cruising the street's of North Hollywood & Beveryl Hill's for quite some time looking for every old ass 50's porsche and not a single one has a competition motor's frame but I did come across this EUROPA MOTOR'S license plate frame and a dozen warning's not to cruise the street's of Beverly hill's at 5 miles an hour looking in everyone's yard LOL It's not a Competition Motor's frame but atleast it's a VW ONLY dealership frame from North Hollywood. To bad It's not for sale. _________________ ** HELL YEAH I'LL SELL IT TO YOU**

OK, if that's your story about why you're cruising Hollywood then stick with it. Just be careful, a lot of the "girls" on Sunset really aren't girls if you know what I mean.
Actually I would be thrilled to know for 100% certain that the plate frame just doesn't exist. Then I could move on.
As nutty as the Porsche guys are about James Dean I'm surprised that no one has reproduced these like they have the ECONO frames. That alone makes me almost certain there's no such thing or someone would have done it. |

Ya know what Will ? I've looked at my dealership book and I don't see a Competition Motor's in it. But the Europa dealership is in the book and clearly say's they are from North Hollywood. It's obvious that Competition Motor's does exist but probably too rare a frame to find but I'll come across it sooner or later and trust me bro it's YOUR'S. Until then I'll keep hittin the pavement not looking for the SHIM's & the pro's & the Ho's but for the VW's and parts that I get for free and sell to ALL of you for an outrageous amount of $$$ Just kidding about the free part (or am I ) _________________ ** HELL YEAH I'LL SELL IT TO YOU**

Finally found the frame that's been hiding from me all these month's. HEY COAD ! IT'S FOR SALE Let me know if you want it because you got first DIB'S Let me know apparently the dealership must of moved in the late 50's to woodland hill's or maybe the city was divided and it fell onto the woodland hill's area. Whatever the case this is the correct COMPETITION MOTOR'S frame you need. _________________ ** HELL YEAH I'LL SELL IT TO YOU**

Competition Motors was in Hollywood in the 50s but I don't know if one of those frames exists. I have never seen one.
1955 ad:
I have seen several Woodland Hills frames, all with VW emblems, both in blue and red. I don't know when they moved. _________________ How to Post Photos

When I was into Porsches.........Competition Motors did not sell VWs. (Unless you consider the 914 a VW.) Maybe when they moved they dropped the bug? _________________ "What a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away." Dobee, Dobee, Do |

Wasn't the Porsche/VW 914 sold under the VW banner? It was the Porsche 914-6 that was sold at the Porsche dealerships. |

914s were sold in the US under the Porsche banner as well a 914-6s. You could not buy a 914 from a VW only based dealer. In California, stores like Don Burns could sell both but that only lasted for a few years. Competition motors may have sold both VWs and Porsches for a limited time. The Competition Motors I am familiar with, only sold Porsches. They must have dropped the VWs like Don Burnes did. _________________ "What a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away." Dobee, Dobee, Do |
