As of a few years ago, the building is still there. I went there. The right hand side is a mini-mart. The left hand side looked like a closed-down auto repair shop.

OK, but there's no way that is the same building as in the earlier picture. Did they move within North Hollywood or is that Woodland Hills?

(I'm 99% sure that's my 55 sitting 5th from the left in the front row of that picture-- prove it isn't!)

after reading this whole damn thread, i have two questions:

what's so special about ECONO? just the l.a. location for you l.a. guys?

also, where can i find information or something on an austin VW dealer in the 60's? you plate frame junkies have got me wanting one now, and i know there was a dealership, but i can't remember the name.

bob miller volksawgen and "cb" smith volkswagen were the dealers here in the era. if any one has any stuff from either of those two places (i.e. plate frames) let me know.

Ok, on that, I have a question. Next to the old dealership in my town there is an "X" under Jan. 1962, and another under '67, does that mean the dealership was first there in 62, and continued to sell cars through 67 and later years? Forgive me if i overlooked something.

i think that means that there is definate paperwork showing that the dealership was active that year, the year with the "x". the records only go up to 67, so beyond that i guess hasn't been verified or hasn't been put in the list. it could also mean that the dealership was around before, but there is no paperwork stating that, or that it sprang up a year earlier, etc.

i think.

so, about those plate frames... Laughing

It means the dealer is listed in dealer listing from those years.

I don't know if we will add listings from the later years as there are A LOT of dealers in the 70s listings and it will be quite a bit of work to add them.

Lids_2001 there was only 250x of those ever made on account of the letter type for C & O's!

Did anyone ever find out who repoped the standard Riverside Econo frames so the ave. Joe could have one from the dealership that started this aftermarket VW industry? Rolling Eyes

I think there only has been maybe 500 of the Riverside Economotors repoped frames made...maybe more soon? Cool ?
