if you're referring to the Kubelwagen, yes, it's been done numerous times.
KdF was really, as is my understanding, the original name for the volkswagen... KdF stood for "Kraft durch Freude" or in english, Strength Through Joy.
here's a picture of a kubel for your enjoyment:
and here is a sorta kubel-ed out thing:

that thing is not "kubeled" at all. the 181 has a military history all of it's own, seeing use by a number of armies and public services in europe. most of the really cool thing accessories are the miltary stuff- headlight and windshield covers, special M- code packages, etc. _________________ OG JHC

There's a company that makes pretty nice conversion kits, but I can't find the website at the moment.
Here's one site to check out:
http://www.kubelwagen.co.uk/reprokubels/reprobuttons.htm
Hey, I found the site I was looking for:

Lets get all our terms straightened out here.
Schwimmenwagen: the top pic that Fatboyoverthrow posted amphibious vehicle used in WWII
Type 82 (aka kubelwagen) : used by bundeswehr (german federal army) circa 1954
Type 181 (mehrzweckwagen): colloquially called a kubel in Germany, manufactured from 70-79 for both civilian and military, the military additions are as follows: In addition to the standard accessories (spare tire w/rim; spare fan belt; tool kit; tommy bar and socket; top hinge covers; window bag; floor mats) the German Bundeswehr VW 181s had the following accessories: larger Group 41 battery; front skid plate; brush bars; 4 rifle holders; straps on the inside rear deck for attaching a shovel; strap and holder inside front apron for hatchet; spare fuel can inside spare tire;
wheel chock with strap and bracket for inside engine compartment; clip and latch for engine hand crank inside engine compartment; green vinyl covers for the headlights, side mirrors and windshield (some early windshield covers were canvas); tire chains; tire gauge; engine crank handle; metal spare bulb and fuse holder; separate 8 slot fuse box for the black-out lights and warning light; spark proof 7 position light switch with lock-out cam.
The military 181 is not to be confused with the 183 or the Iltis made in 1976 and still in use today by the UN, Canada and many other nations.
With that being said...which modifications are you talking about? |
