Hello everyone while doing work to my rig I realized the there is MAJOR rust in my tank, I was wondering what all my options are on replacing or if it would be advisable to recoat it....(im thinking a new one) where and how$ someone said there was also an after market larger capacity one as well.....ive even thought about aftermaket offroad models as well...any options inputs would be great .thanks for your time Dave |

I would just find a replacement in the classifieds. There should be one or two out west that are solid. |

I have heard that the replacement larger capacity gas tanks cannot use your stock gas cap and filler pipe arrangement. The gas cap is located under the hood like those early style bugs. That could be good or bad depending. In my case the filler neck is F’d up and I cant stop the left turn gas leak so it would be a good thing, but since they hold 16 gallon you cant fit a stock spare tire under the hood. Once again I don’t have a tire size that fits under the hood anyway so also a good thing. It’s up to you. If you’re willing to drive down to Monrovia I have a Thing gas tank that is in pretty good shape I will sell for cheap.
*Note*: since I have never used an after market gas tank, take everything I say with a grain of salt. |
