Guys
For all you Split experts out there I have a question for you.
I am going through my 14mm headed Kamax bolt collection to sort out some bolts for the mounting of the fenders on my '51 Kabrio...I have come across two different sorts and was wondering which ones are the correct ones. All are Kamax 14mm M8X20 and some have 8G on the heads and the others have 5D.Got to do it correctly so what ones are correct?

Rasche is the 3rd OEM supplier to VW for bolts. Original hardware is the only way to go.

yes, the '8' labeled bolts are harder than those labeled '5'. I don't know split beetles at all so I cant tell you what is correct for your '51. I do know later beetle use the thick 13mm headed 8mm bolts but i cant say the hardness... i'd have to go over to the garage and look.

VW bolts:
Kamax
Dorn
Rasche
Ribe
Dera
Verbus

I think the Dera are only on later stuff. I know my 59 double cab has all brands but the dera and verbus.

Thanks guys for your input so far.
Yeah I know its anal but I have spent so much time doing this car so far that I want to get it right.
I checked my pointed body mounting bolts and they are Kamax 8G so they are the stronger ones...what would the fender bolts be 5D or 8G....some splitwindow expert must know????
Please help me as I want to get these off to the platers for finishing.

I'll take em! Everytime I'm at your place Bill, I always ask for 14mm bolts and you always say "none". Now that the Charger football season is over Crying or Very sad , I'm going to have to help you clean out the garage. How's Sunday sound after Pomona?

Guys
Just to keep everyone up to spec.
I consulted my '52 parts manual and it shows that the fender bolts were M8X20 DIN 931,on further investigation the DIN 931 is 8G,so I guess that is what they will be.Luckily I was able to come up with a complete set of 40 Kamax 8G bolts for the fenders.
Off to the electroplaters they go for the correct black finish.
For reference early bolts came in two main hardness grades,DIN 931 which is 8G and DIN 933 which is 5D,these grades are used all over the body area etc.....there was also 10k which was mainly used on high stress areas like rod bolts, suspension etc etc.
Hope this helps all those that care......or are anal about these details.
I am.
