I just put a BugPac extractor with a "mondo" (it is pretty loud!) muffler. The 'instructions' say I might need to go to a 130-135 main jet. Is that a good idea? The engine seems to rev more quickly but I detect a very slight 'skip' on idle and between gear shifts. Have not retuned anything on my stock 1600 since the installation. Advance at about 28 degrees in. Should I simply retune from scratch. or replace plugs and wires....change jetting...what is the best way to begin? The 73 Thing seems a bit stronger but I want to sure that I am tuning it for the new exhaust...if that is important. Guidance asked for. BTW: where do I get a 130 or 135 main jet? _________________ It's a Southern Thing, 73, stock.

stock is likely a 117 jet. in the simplest of terms, jet size determines the "flow' of fuel inot the air fuel mix, then into your engine, and at the opposite end of your engine your exhaust choice determines the flow of exhaust out. think of your engine as a holding tank: if your supply pipe is smaller than your drain, the holding tank will drain faster than it can fill. likewise if your supply line is bigger than your drain, your tank will never empty. What you want to do is keep the tank balanced.
(You don't want to end up looking like cousin eddie in "Christmas Vacation", waving at Clark and announcing proudly, "shitter's full!")
What you have done is just installed a culvert on your holding tank. now you have to increase your intake to take advantage of the increase in outflow.
Changing jets is a straightforward process, and you may want to look at starting small and working your way up. get a 125, 130, and 135 jet.
