Hello,
I just got a bus recently, the info on my chassis plate says VW 2/22 what does that mean?
it is a 57 so it doesn't have a m plate, I don't have the bucks for a birth certificate right now, but there was some interesting plywood in the back, other than that it is empty, but there is also an interesting curved line on the roof with equally spaced screw holes, looks like the results of a tent bracket I have seen....that make me suspect of a westy..
Any help from the experts?
thanks
Matt

Ok Camper detectives. I checked out a 58 panel camper conversion today. no pics. It is an OTW but not sure which. There were a few distinguishing features that would help determine what it is. The bus was all taken apart and everything is stacked inside.
1. The long rear cabinet on the pass side has a bypass sliding door
2. (I have not seen this before) Above the bulkhead there is a wood panel that matches the wood / trim of the rest of the camper parts. It goes from side to side and starts at the gutter height and goes to the ceiling. Cut out for the fresh air vent.
3. Bus is a 58 which is kinda early for conversions, but of course it could have been done any time later
4. upholstery on rear cushions are blue vinyl, but of course could have been redone, but they look original.

Here are some pics of a 65 Roadrunner camper I have.
These were also made from panels, and the panel version has different windows. This one is a kombi.

Is that a Hehr manufactured window??
If so, that was produced for anyone who wanted to manufacture one camper/trailer interior or thousands.
Might be more helpful if you can post images or trace out any lines inside where the cabinets would be. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

No, the Riviera windows are long, but don't have louvers at each end. The ends slide to open.
back window of this bus has been slid open:

This is the same type as mentioned at the beginning of this thread but not identified. Could just be a generic camper window anyone could purchase as previously mentioned.

Without any camping interior in it all you can say is you have a panel van with a HEHR window cut into it. |

I read a nice article in my emagazine Aircooled Classics VW & Porsche issue #6 Jan-Mar 2013 and was unable to locate any information on this UK camper other than their article and wanted to share. I was able to locate this photo on line and I placed it in my gallery. If this is a copy post please delete. Enjoy.

Have you considered simply starting with a nicer bus? I don't know what your skills are, but the race is easier if you can see the finish line. If you are not a runner, don't start off doing a marathon. |

I do remember your bus, definitely a once in a lifetime find. Sorry to hear about the seller's remorse although there are a ton of people on this site who feel just like you.
Hopefully the person who bought it does it justice since it's such a rare bus. _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |
