I just wanted to post up a recommendation for Steve at Steve's Lock Shoppe, in Texas.
http://www.steveslockshop.com/
He's rekeyed several VWs for me, and a couple old Jeeps as well. He does great work, has areally fast turnaround time on the work, and is a really pleasant person to do business with.
I know there are other VW locksmiths that are highly recommended, but I'd definitely recommend Steve. He gets all my business, especially since some of those other people couldn't be bothered to return my emails...

Steve is at most of the major VW shows in Texas and a strong asset to VW clubs. He does on the spot repairs and keys at shows for VWs as well as English Cars. My last trransaction was for bus handles. Very easy to deal with.

I had Steve make keys for my lot find '71 Fastback using the ignition code. He first sent me a steel key to test it. It worked perfectly. I then had him send me a couple of VW logo keys. No problemo. They worked just like a charm.

Steve is quick and responsive. Everything worked. I recommend him highly.

I've had Steve cut me a number of keys the last couple of years. He's easy to deal with, and does good work.

Steve matched my door locks to my ignition key and cut me a spare this past weekend at a VW show in Houston, TX.

He had them done for me in no time, and everything worked perfectly.
Steve is a great guy and does excellent work. I would recommend him anytime.

I completely lost all the keys to my 78 Westy while I had it up on jack stands. I pulled the lock cylinder from the sliding door and took it to a local show that Steve was at. He cut a key from the code and it didn't work in the cylinder, so he used a different brand of blank and cut another one. It also didn't work in the cylinder. He looked at the cylinder pretty close and came to the conclusion that someone had stuck a screwdriver in it and messed up the pegs. He guaranteed me that the keys will fit the ignition and if it didn't he would refund my money or get me a key that would work. I took it home and whaddayaknow? it works every lock (except the slider which is goofed up) and the ignition! And he only charged me for one key! Steve is awesome!

I have a 68’ bay with no keys.
I pulled the locks and then contacted Steve with the code.
I ordered one plain key to test with. The key arrived quickly and worked great. I then ordered two of the plastic toped and one original style keys.
The order never arrived, I contacted Steve and he recut the keys and mailed to me again that day.
I got them a few days later and the all tested fine.

I will definitely order some more keys for my bugs.
