Sweet! If this bus ever is back for sale please MSG me first! Love the name and history! My name is Bill Melvin, so the MelVan previously owned by Bill seems like a good fit. Plus I love the stickers and any bus with good Karma. _________________ BreckSkier

What size tires are you running? Those look nice and seem on the bigger side (maybe 6.70 x 15 Bias ply) so probably help with gearing a bit. _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

Nice to see this thread pop up again. I re-read it and wow, lots of memories.
I was looking for something completely different in the gallery, but came across this (Melvan) unlabeled pic posted by Glenn in 2004.

I remember seeing this bus at Bulli Brigade (Tampa, Florida) back in 2000 or 2002. The owners had driven from Florida. It's great to see this bus is still building a lot of memories. _________________ I make HWE style roof racks, Jim-Dandy racks, SO-33 metal parts, Dormobile racks, HWE style ladders, engine crank start handles, Westy rack tags, Binz tags, Sundial badges, State of California tags, steering lock electrical covers and single / double cab gate latch friction blocks.

It's the Virgin of Guadulupe. Heavy Mexican-Catholic influence from where the Bus was from, New Mexico.
I'm pretty sure that was painted on the roof when Bill owned it. Probably got a lot of props from truckers passing by. _________________ I've never met a Bus I didn't like.

Cool, thanks J. I now feel complete as I have never noticed it. I'm a big fan of logos, bus art and stickers. Keep up the good work as the steward of the Melvan bus.
I have used this image on my Facebook wall for a very long time, always puts a smile on my face.

Have you considered simply starting with a nicer bus? I don't know what your skills are, but the race is easier if you can see the finish line. If you are not a runner, don't start off doing a marathon. |

There seems to be quite a bit of contemporary information about the artist online. She specializes in Southwestern art. Pretty interesting...
Thanks for posting up the continuing adventures of MelVan. It brings back some good memories of chatting with Bill and his Wife as well as some of the camps and shows we had back in the day. I'm sure that Bill would be stoked to know that Melvan and his legend carry on over in Europe. _________________ I've never met a Bus I didn't like.
